Problem Note 43085: Microsoft Office applications might require a long time to load if the SAS® Add-In for Microsoft Office is enabled
New instances of Microsoft Office applications might require a long time to start when the SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office is enabled if the client machine does not have access to the internet.
Microsoft-compatible Add-Ins built on VSTO (Visual Tools for Office) runtime version 9.0 or higher contain a setting that specifies how often to 'Search for Updates'. For a client machine that does not have internet access, Microsoft Office tries to search for updates for installed Add-Ins, but fails. This results in a long delay in loading the new instance of the Office application(s).
The SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office does not publish any updates that will be found by this search; therefore, this option will be disabled in a future release of the SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office.
Another cause of delays invoking a Microsoft Office application might be due to the application attempting to authenticate certificates of trust during start-up. If Check for publisher's certificate revocation is selected in the Internet Explorer Advanced settings dialog, additional time might be required to start your Office application. Office inherits this setting from Internet Explorer, and Office will automatically check for certificate revocation when installed.
Please note that the above 'Search for Updates' behavior has been observed with the SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office 4.3 for the Microsoft Outlook Add-In and for the OlapViewerAdd-In. Beginning with the SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office 5.1, this will apply to all SAS Add-Ins that interact with Microsoft Office applications.
