Problem Note 43064: TRANWRD function can crash DBCS SAS when translating same variable to itself
Segmentation Violation In Task [ DATASTEP ]
This message can occur when Double Byte Character Set (DBCS) SAS is used to translate characters and replace the current string with a longer string. The result is placed in the same character variable that is also the source variable.
The same failure may occur with the TRANSTRN function in DBCS SAS
Here is an example statement:
EVENT_CMNT = tranwrd(EVENT_CMNT,',', ", ");
In the example above, the TO string is longer than the FROM string.
The workaround is to use a different, longer character variable for the results of the function
