Problem Note 42969: "Invalid data" note received when reading files with variable-length records using DECNET

When you attempt to read a raw data file remotely using DECNET, the following note might appear in the SAS log:
NOTE: Invalid data for XYZ in line 1 70-70. …
The problem occurs because only a partial open on the file is performed, and the record attributes of the file are not provided. The record attributes are needed to determine how to read the file properly.
