Problem Note 42270: The GEOCODE procedure might terminate with the error "Variable [var] is not on file"
An error message similar to the following might be received when using the GEOCODE procedure to geocode an address data set:
ERROR: Variable [variable-name] is not on file [lookup-data-set].
The geocoding process will terminate and no output data set is generated. This is most likely to occur when using the STREET geocoding method.
The problem can occur when extraneous information that is not part of the actual street address is contained in the street address field of the address data set being processed. This extra information might cause a buffer containing the address information to be exceeded, which generates the error.
To circumvent the problem, remove any information from the address field that is not part of the actual street address.
