A sample JAVA utility was provided in SAS^® 9.1.3 that connected to the SAS^® Metadata Server to verify that the server was active and responding to client requests for service: SAS^® 9.1.3 Metadata Server Ping Utility. However, this utility was not updated to be compatible with SAS^® 9.2.

Instead, in SAS 9.2 you can use the ValidateServer utility that is available with the SAS Intelligence Platform Object Framework to validate any of your SAS^® Business Intelligence servers. The utility is located in your SAS installation directory, under the SASPlatformObjectFramework\9.2 folder.

to obtain the documentation for the utility. The help output is written to the default log file, "ValidateServerErrorLog.log", in \ApplicationData\SAS\LOGS on Windows based systems and \.SASAppData\SAS\LOGS on other operating systems.

You can also create a script that calls the ValidateServer command and use it to schedule routine checks of the server's availability.

There was a utiity in SAS® 9.1.3 that allowed you to ping the SAS® Metadata Server from within a script. That utility was not included in SAS® 9.2, but a new feature in the SAS Platform Object Framework allows you to fully validate the SAS Metadata Server in script form.
