Problem Note 42432: An error occurs when you run a batch job under the local system account on a Windows Server 2008 x64 machine
When you run SAS® 9.2 on a Windows Server 2008 x64 machine, errors occur if you attempt to run a batch job under the local system account.
The new security settings under Windows Server 2008 x64 does not allow the local system account to write to the C:\Users folder. For this reason, the following errors occur:
ERROR: Invalid physical name for library SASUSER.
NOTE: Unable to initialize the options subsystem.
ERROR: SASXKINI): PHASE 3 KERNEL INITIALIZATION FAILED.
ERROR: Unable to initialize the SAS kernel.
Use one of the following options to work around this issue:
- Option 1: Use a different account (not the local system account) to run the batch job. To do this, change
the user ID that runs this batch job in the Services window of Windows Server 2008.
- Option 2: Change the location that is specified by the SAS system options SASUSER and WORK. You can change these in the SASV9.CFG
file. Alternatively, if you have an application tier, you can specify these options in the SASBATCH_USERMODS.BAT file under
the appropriate server configuration folder.
- Option 3: If you are using only SAS Foundation, you can redirect the -config to point to a SASV9.CFG file to be used for
batch job processing only. In this SASV9.CFG file, change all options that use the "?CSIDL_PERSONAL" variable
to point to a hard-coded location.

When you are logged on under the local system account on a Windows server 2008 x64 machine, an error will occur when you try to run a batch job.
