Problem Note 41974: 'Template save failed' message when trying to save a form template that has been migrated from SAS® Financial Management release 4.x to release 5.x
If you are working with a SAS Financial Management form/form set that was migrated from release 4.x to release 5.x, you might see a message similar to:
Template save failed
when you select
SAS Solutions > Save > Save Template
in the SAS Financial Management Add-In For Microsoft Excel.
The SAS Add-In For Microsoft Office (AMO) log might show a message similar to:
System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not find file 'C:\Documents and Settings\sas\Local Settings\Temp\2\.xlsb_web.sestemp'.
If so, the problem is likely caused by SAS Financial Management trying to save the template as an Excel form and as a Web form.
However, in SAS Financial Management 4.x there was no option to create/save a web form, so no web form exists immediately after the migration to release 5.x.
When the Save Template option is selected, SAS Financial Management first saves to a local file on the client machine. In doing so, it looks for an existing file to replace on the local hard drive. In this case, the SAS Financial Management Add-In For Microsoft Excel is trying to find an Excel version of the form and a Web version of the form. However, the original form was effectively saved as 'Excel only' since the option to save as a Web form did not exist in SAS Financial Management release 4.x. This is indicated by the message in the AMO log:
System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not find file 'C:\Documents and Settings\sas\Local Settings\Temp\2\.xlsb_web.sestemp'.
(notice the "_web" toward the end of the filename).
A workaround has been identified for this issue, as follows:
- Open your form set in the 5.x release of the SAS Financial Management Add-In for Microsoft Excel.
- Click your mouse anywhere in the Data-entry Table and select
Members > Calculated Members.
- In the Calculated Members dialog box, select 'New...'.
- For the purposes of this workaround, select any dimension, and 'Next'.
- For the purposes of this workaround, select any position, and 'Next'.
- Enter an obvious code for this calculated member, such as 'Workaround' and select 'Next'.
- Enter a simple formula, such as '=0' and select 'Finish'.
- In the Calculated Members dialog box, ensure that your newly created calculated member in NOT selected and then select 'OK'. If is important that you do NOT delete this newly added calculated member.
- If there is more than one table in your form/form set, you must repeat the above steps ONLY if any of the tables reference a separate model. For EACH table that references a separate model, a unique new calculated member needs to be added, as described in the above steps.
- Once you have added your calculated member(s) as described above, you should be able to successfully save your form/form set.
Click the Hot Fix tab in this note to access the hot fix for this issue in SAS Financial Management release 5.2.
This is marked as fixed in release 5.3 of SAS Financial Management.
