Since version 2.1, SAS Web Report Studio has enabled you to link reports together. In version 4.2, the report linking feature has been enhanced to enable you to perform the following additional tasks:
Note: Beginning with version 4.3, passing hidden values is supported for source reports based on relational data.
In addition, the following changes were made to the user interface.
To illustrate some of these enhancements, this sample shows you how to pass prompt values between sections of the same report, including explanations of how to:
As the input table for report, this sample uses the PRDSALE table, which is one of the sample tables included with SAS.
The Product Sales by Country report has two sections: Actual Sales by Quarter and Actual Sales by Year. Both sections have one crosstabulation table, and prompted filters for Product Type and Country.
Here is the Actual Sales by Quarter report with Office selected for product type and Canada selected for country.
At this point, if you select the Actual Sales by Year section from the Table of Contents, you must reselect Canada and Office to see the results by year for those data items.
The steps in this sample refer to features in this report. You can follow along with your own report and data.
Note: To define report linking, must have the capability to link reports. If you do not see the menu option, contact your system administrator.
Open the report to the first section and answer the prompts. In this sample, Canada is selected for the country prompt, and Office is selected for the product type prompt. Here are sample results.
At this point, if you use the Table of Contents to select another section, you are prompted again to specify filter values. However, because the sections are linked, you can simply click on one of the hyperlinked values in the table.
The associated values are passed to the next section.
About passing values via a hyperlink
The values that are passed to the target depend on which value you click. In this sample, the clicked sales figure is associated with Canada, which the only country in the report, and Office, which is the only product type represented in the results. If the table had also included Germany and Furniture, you could have clicked on a sales figure for Furniture in Germany. In that case, Germany and Furniture would have been passed to the prompts in the linked section. For an illustration of how this works, see the next section in this sample and Sample 26174. |
Let's say that the Product Sales by Country report has an additional section named Summary, which contains aggregated sales information across countries, regions, divisions, and product lines, and products. You can use the section linking feature to pass the values from a link in the Summary report to the prompts in both the Actual Sales by Quarter and Actual Sales by Year sections. The following display shows how you might set this up.
If you click the linked value shown in the following display, Canada and Furniture will be automatically passed to the prompts in the Actual Sales by Quarter section (selected in the Open to section list).
Here is how the Actual Sales by Quarter section might appear.
At this point, because the Set Up Destination Report dialog box also matched data items in the Summary section to the prompt values for the Actual Sales by Year section, you could select that section from the Table of Contents and still automatically pass Furniture and Canada to the prompts.
