Usage Note 40377: The warning message "Unable to connect" appears during installation of SAS® 9.2 on a middle-tier machine
When you are installing SAS 9.2 on a middle-tier machine, the following warning message might appear:
Warning: Unable to connect.
Possible causes include invalid credentials (user ID and/or password), incorrect connection information (host and/or port), or because no server is running.
This message usually indicates one of the following:
- An incorrect password is being entered for the unrestricted account "sasadm@saspw" when you are prompted for the SAS metadata server connection credentials.
- An incorrect host name or IP address was entered when you were prompted for the host name information for the metadata server during the installation process.
- There is a networking or connection problem between the middle-tier machine and the metadata server. This could be due to firewall or security software blocking the ports that are needed by SAS. To verify that there are no networking problems between the two machines, check the configuration of your firewall software or disable firewall services between the two machines.
