Overview

When a prompted report is saved, the last-selected prompt values are also saved. In some cases, one or more of those values might not be valid. For example, you select Tracker Shoes as the value for a Product prompt and save the report. Later, the Tracker Shoes product is removed from the data source. The next time someone opens the report, Tracker Shoes is still available as a prompt value, although it returns no results.

In some cases, the last-saved prompt value might be a value that a user should not be permitted to see. For example, an identity-driven filter has been applied to the Country data item so that UserA can see Germany and Canada and UserB can see U.S.A. and Mexico. The report also has a prompted filter for Country. If UserB views results for Mexico and saves the report, then UserA will see Mexico as a prompt value the next time UserA accesses the report. If UserA selects Mexico, he sees no results because the identity-driven filter is enforced.

Workarounds for releases 3.1 through 4.31_M1

As a workaround for version 3.1, before exiting the report, you can reset report prompts to the default values and save the report.

If you are using versions 4.2 through 4.31_M1, you must reset the prompts to the default values, view the report, and then save.

Options for release 4.31_M2 and later

Beginning with SAS Web Report Studio 4.31_M2, you can set a system-wide property that does one of the following, depending on the specified value.

• Always keeps the last-saved prompt values (current behavior).
• Always resets the prompt values to the defaults. Prompts with defaults are filled in with default values. If no default is specified, then the prompt is blank.
• Always clears all prompt values. That is, all prompts are blank. No defaults are used. This option requires users to provide a value for every prompt every time they access the report.

To set this property, make the following changes to the SAS Web Report Studio properties in SAS^® Management Console.

1. On the Plug-ins tab, select Application Management ► Configuration Manager ► SAS Application Infrastructure.
2. Right-click Web Report Studio 4.x and select Properties to open the Web Report Studio 4.x Properties dialog box.
3. Click the Advanced tab.
4. Click Add to open the Define New Property dialog box.
5. For the Property Name, enter wrs.save.promptValues.option
6. For the Property Value, enter one of the following.
• KeepCustomerPromptValues

Note: Typically, you would only use this property if you wanted to change the behavior from one of the other options back to the default.

• ResetPromptValues

Note: Do not use ResetPromptValues if your report includes identity-driven filters. These two options are not compatible. If they are used together, you see an error that the value of a fixed prompt cannot be cleared. Currently, there is no workaround that enables you to use ResetPromptValues with an identity-driven filter.

• ClearPromptValues
7. Click OK twice to exit both dialog boxes and save the changes.
8. Restart your web application server to enforce the new setting.
9. Log into SAS Web Report Studio, view all of your prompted reports once, and then save them. This step is necessary because SAS Web Report Studio checks the value of the property only when you save the report. If you don't save the report at least once after changing this property, then SAS Web Report Studio manages the prompts based on the last known property value.
