When performing a top-down budget process in SAS^® Financial Management, you can choose to allocate amounts to lower-levels in the target hierarchy by selecting

SAS Solutions > Edit > Allocate

Once an amount has been allocated to a member, any data values you enter to the children of that member must not exceed the total amount that has been allocated. If your entry exceeds the allocated amount, you will receive an error message similar to:

The following is an example where you might receive this error message:

In column C, (Month2 Budget), an amount of 200.00 has been allocated from the top-level member to the level below (for reference, the top-level amount of 223,225,63 for Month2 Budget is in cell C7 and the 200.00 has been allocated to the crossing represented by cell C8). During data entry, any amount up to and including a total 200.00 can be entered into the writeable (yellow) cells below that (in this example, that is cell C10, the cell with the value that is curently 0.00). If an amount greater than 200.00 is entered, you will receive the error message above.

However, there have been intermittent occurrences where a valid value is entered into a top-down Data-entry form and the above error message is still generated. For example, if you enter an amount of 100.00 in cell C10 of the above table, you would not expect to receive that error.

If you encounter this, there is a workaround to the issue. You can either manually enter the allocated amount (200.00 in cell C8 in the above example), or go back up to the top-level account (cell C7 above) and re-allocate the amount.

This has been fixed in release 5.1 of SAS Financial Management.
