Problem Note 40382: CALL SYMPUT may not update existing global macro variable
An existing global macro variable may not be updated if the update takes
place within an IML environment.
For example, if you set a macro variable in IML and update the macro
variable in a submit block, the update may not take place in the IML
environment.

Release is the software release in which the problem is planned to be
fixed.
Creating a macro variable within IML may cause an existing variable with the same name to not be updated.
