Usage Note 39674: You cannot use the LOG system option nor the ALTLOG system option to redirect the SAS® log when the SAS logging facility is initialized
When the SAS logging facility is initialized, you cannot use the LOG system option nor the ALTLOG system option to redirect the SAS log. The SAS logging facility is initialized by default for SAS® Integration Technology servers such as the SAS® Metadata Server, SAS® Stored Process Server, SAS Workspace Server, SAS Pooled Workspace Server, and SAS Object Spawner.
If an additional SAS process is launched from one of these servers, then the SAS log for that process also cannot be redirected by using the LOG or ALTLOG option. This issue occurs because the -LOGCONFIGLOC option that initializes the SAS logging facility is picked up through the SAS configuration file for the SAS Integration Technology server when the new SAS process is launched. For example, the X command can be used to launch a new SAS process from a SAS Integration Technology server process.
In order to use the LOG or ALTLOG option to redirect the SAS log in this situation, the -CONFIG option should be specified on the launch command line for the new process. Also, the -CONFIG option should point to a SAS configuration file that does not contain the -LOGCONFIGLOC option. By default, the -LOGCONFIGLOC option is not specified in the SAS configuration file located in the SASFoundation directory.
