Even if you do not have operating-system access to a table that is being used as a data source for an information map, you might still see results when opening the information map in SAS Enterprise Guide. Specifically, if server-side pooling is enabled, then the results will be retrieved by the credentials used to launch the server, instead of your credentials. (This assumes that the server credentials have operating-system access to the data.)
When these conditions exist, a red X will appear in the icon for the Import task, and the SAS Enterprise Guide log will contain an error and note similar to the following.
ERROR: User does not have appropriate authorization level for library SALESLIB. NOTE: The Information Maps LIBNAME Engine is retrieving data via a remote connection. Performance is not optimized.
The error indicates that you do not have operating-system access to the table location via a standard workspace server. The note indicates that, as a result, the request is being passed to the server-side pooled workspace server.
Note: Under these circumstances, the remote connection can negatively affect performance.
Tip: This design means that information maps can be used to restrict access to the physical data. For example, the information map might contain only a subset of the columns that are in the underlying table.
