Problem Note 38832: Rows cannot be edited or inserted when you use the SAS® 9.2 ODBC Driver from an external tool

The following error might occur in a local edition of SAS® 9.2 when you use the SAS ODBC Driver (9.02.00.9225) to edit or insert data from an external tool:

modify column on a table error:  restricted data type attribute
 violation(-1)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

The problem occurs when you use an external tool such as Microsoft Query (via Excel). There is no workaround for this problem.
