Usage Note 38872: Using the SECURITY_SUBSET=YES option and the impact on parent and visual totals
SAS® 9.2 provides a new feature called Security Subsets. This feature is enabled in your OLAP cube by building the cube with the SECURITY_SUBSET=YES option in your OLAP procedure code, or by checking the option to include secured member values in presummarized computations within the Cube Designer. When SECURITY_SUBSET=YES is set, the subset that is defined in the permission condition is applied when calculating the cell values.
Using the SECURITY_SUBSET= option enforces the appropriate security whenever the cube is queried, which impacts whether you should use parent or visual totals. Typically, you want to see visual totals because those calculations are based on the displayed data. However, visual totals are calculated at run time, which requires more overhead and might negatively affect performance in certain situations. However, if security is applied to a cube, then parent totals can be used if the SECURITY_SUBSET=YES option is enabled when building the cube. In this case, you see totals based on the displayed values without the same run-time overhead as using visual totals.
For more information and examples of using the SECURITY_SUBSET= option, refer to the SAS 9.2 OLAP Server MDX Guide.
For more information about how filtering affects OLAP navigation, member availability, and totaling in SAS® Web Report Studio, please refer to SAS Note 37628.
