Problem Note 38795: ERROR: Invalid credentials and Access denied when running the SAS® Metadata Repository Backup utility
When running the SAS® Metadata Repository Backup and Restore utility under the Metadata Manager plugin in SAS® Management
Console, you might receive the following errors in the backup log file:
ERROR: Invalid credentials
ERROR: Access denied.
To correct the problem, first ensure that the user who launches the Backup wizard (or who runs a job created by the wizard) meets the qualifications outlined in the section entitled "Ensure Appropriate User Credentials" in the SAS® 9.2 Intelligence Platform System Administration Guide.
If the user's credentials are set up correctly, then the problem is likely caused by a mismatch between the host name defined for the SASMeta Workspace Server and the host name defined in the user's SAS Management Console login profile.
To identify the host name associated with the SASMeta Workspace Server, follow these steps:
- Expand the Server Manager plugin► expand the SASMeta server context► expand the SASMeta - Logical Workspace Server.
- Right–click on the SASMeta - Workspace Server icon and choose Properties.
- In the Properties window, click on the Options tab and locate the machine name listed in the Selected box in the middle right of the window. Note the exact name (or ip address) that appears.
- Locate the host name in the login profile by clicking File then Connection Profile in the pulldown menu at the top of the SAS Management Console window.
- Click Yes in the Disconnect from Server prompt box to display the Connection Profile window. With the current connection profile selected, click the Edit button to open the Edit Connection Profile wizard.
- Click the Next button to display the Connection Information step and check the machine name that appears. If it is different from the name of the machine listed in the Selected box for the SASMeta - Workspace Server (see above), then edit the value so it exactly matches the value found in the Selected box.
- Continue through the wizard, leaving all other options set as-is.
- Reconnect to the SAS® Metadata Server and re–run the Backup and Restore utility.

For software releases that are not yet generally available, the Fixed
Release is the software release in which the problem is planned to be
fixed.
Invalid credentials and access denied errors occur when the SAS Workspace Server host name does not exactly match the host defined in the user's login profile.
