Usage Note 38535: An error occurs when you import Microsoft .XLSB and .XLSX files into SASĀ® 9.2
When you import Microsoft Excel .XLSB and .XLSX files into SAS, you can receive the following error message:
ERROR: Connect: This file was created in a previous beta
version of Excel 2007. Open the file with Excel 2007 to
save it to the most recent version of the Excel
2007 file format before opening the file in Access 2007.
The problem can occur after you apply Microsoft patch MS09-067 to your system. For details about the patch, see
"Microsoft Security Bulletin MS09-067 - Important".
<
The problem occurs because the .XLSB files are created with an older release of Microsoft Office 2007, which contains vulnerabilities. The patch fixes those vulnerabilities, but it does not enable the older files to be imported by the Microsoft Access Connectivity Engine, which SAS uses. To resolve the problem, resave the files in an updated copy of Microsoft Office.
