Problem Note 38458: SQLPLAN internal errors might occur when you reference a view in a query that has variables that are defined with the the LENGTH= column modifier

In Base SAS® software, SQLPLAN internal errors might occur when the following events take place:
- You reference a view that has variables that are defined with the LENGTH= modifier.
- In an SQL procedure query, you reference calculated variables that were created earlier in the query and you reference an additional variable with a LENGTH= modifier.
The following code illustrates one case that can produce the SQLPLAN internal errors:
proc sql;
create view v1 as
select x length=7, y length=8
from test;
create table results as
select y length=8,
case when upcase(x) contains "VD" and upcase(x) not contains "VICE" then 1 else 0
end as _VD ,
max(case when calculated _VD then 1 else . end) as cnts ,
case when upcase(x) contains "LEDAM" then 1 else .
end as _LEDAM,
count(calculated _LEDAM) as _NumLEDAM
from v1;
quit;
In this case, the following error messages are generated:
ERROR: sqlplan internal error: Cannot find symbol _VD, var=2,
tag=0001. This message can be caused by attempting to
make correlated references between two different items
on a single FROM clause.
ERROR: sqlplan internal error: Cannot find symbol _VD, var=2,
tag=0001. This message can be caused by attempting to
make correlated references between two different items
on a single FROM clause.
ERROR: sqlplan internal error: Cannot find symbol #TEMA001,
var=8, tag=0001. This message can be caused by
