If you launch SAS® Download Manager to download a JMP® Software Depot on an Apple Mac running OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard, the following error will occur:

   ERRORS occurred during the installation
   JVM not found

The errors are a result of an incompatibility between Snow Leopard’s new JRE and the JRE that SAS Download Manager searches for. Follow the steps below to download and install the version of Java to use with the SAS Download Manager. A new version of SAS Download Manager that will use the new JRE is planned for the first quarter of 2010.

First download the official JAVA Package from Apple - DO NOT INSTALL: http://support.apple.com/downloads/Java_for_Mac_OS_X_10_5_Update_4

Download and install Pacifist, available at http://pacifist.en.softonic.com/mac. There is a 30-day trial version if you do not have it installed.

Using Finder, click on your HD > System > Library > Frameworks > JavaVM.framework > Versions. Delete (that is, trash) the two aliases (symlinks) "1.5" and "1.5.0". If you do not follow this step, the extraction of Java 1.5 will follow the symlinks and overwrite them with the 1.6.0 folder.

Then using Pacifist, click to Open a package. While in Pacifist, click on the newly downloaded JavaForMacOSX10.5Update4.pkg. Once it displays in the contents window expand on JavaForMacOSX10.5Update4.pkg > System > Library > Frameworks > JavaVM.framework > Versions.

Select 1.5, then go to the top menu and select "Install" and install to the default location.

Select 1.5.0, then go to the top menu and select "Install" and install to the default location.

Alternatively, you can contact SAS Technical Support and ask to receive your order via physical media. You can also choose to download SAS Download Manager to a Windows machine, download your SAS order into a SAS Software Depot on Windows, and then copy the entire SAS Software Depot to your Mac.
