Windows applications that reference components from the SAS® Integration Technologies Client for Windows may crash unexpectedly. SAS® applications such as JMP® Genomics, SAS® Enterprise Guide®, and SAS® Add-In for Microsoft Office can exhibit the problem. The problem is not limited to SAS applications. Custom applications written in Visual Basic, .Net, or other Windows languages may encounter the same behavior.

If the client application connects to SAS® using strong encryption provided by SAS/SECURE™ software, then the crash typically occurs approximately twenty to ninety seconds after the client disconnects from SAS. If strong encryption is not used, then the crash typically occurs approximately twenty minutes after the client disconnects from SAS.

Depending on the SAS product being used, one of the following messages will be displayed when the crash occurs:

  • SAS Enterprise Guide 4.2 has stopped working
  • Microsoft Office Excel has encountered a problem and needs to close
  • Microsoft Office Word has encountered a problem and needs to close
