Once a cycle has been created in SAS Financial Management, it might be necessary to go back later and add additional time periods to the cycle. To do so, please follow these steps:

Please note that the information below is specific to SAS Financial Management release 4.x at the present time. We are in the process of updating this information for SAS Financial Management 5.x.

(A) Create new time periods in SAS Financial Management Studio

1. In the Dimensions workspace, select the TIME dimension.
2. Select "Show members for this dimension".
3. In the Members tab, select "New Member".
4. Select "Create a new member" and "Next".
5. Give the new member an appropriate Code, Name and Description (such as YR 2010) and "Next".
6. Select the type of time period for each new member - such month, quarter, year, and "Next".
7. Use the calendar buttons to select the appropriate start and end date for each new period (such as Start date: Jan 1, 2010; End date: Dec 31, 2010) and "Next".
8. Confirm your selections and then "Finish".
9. Confirm that the new time dimension member has been added to the dimension Members list
10. Repeat as necessary until all new time periods are created.
11. When done, close out of the Time dimension member view.

1. In the Dimensions workspace, select the TIME dimension.
2. Select "Show members for this dimension".
3. Select the "Hierarchies" tab.
4. If you are adding a new year to your TIME dimension, select the top-level parent in the TIME dimension and select "Add Member". If adding a new quarter, select the Year as the parent and select "Add Member", etc.
5. Choose "Add members from the dimension that are not already in this hierarchy" and "Next"
6. Select "Add". The appropriate new time members are displayed (for instance, if you were on the top-level parent in the TIME dimension, only new YEAR members would display).
7. Select the member(s) and "OK"
8. Select "Finish"
9. Confirm that your new time periods have been added appropriately to the TIME dimension hierarchy
10. Repeat as needed to add all new time periods (such as Years, Quarters, Months) to the TIME dimension hierarchy.
11. When done, close out of the Time dimension hierarchy view.

1. In SAS Financial Management Studio, from the Dimensions workspace, select the TIME dimension and "Export this dimension"
2. Select "Next"
3. For Export Options, you might want to accept the default setting and select "Next"
4. For "SAS Data Library", select stagedds and "Next"
5. Confirm your selections and "Finish"

1. In SAS Data Integration Studio, select the Detail Data Store repository.
2. Run the following jobs, in the order specified
   • 105800 Load DDS TIME_PERIOD Table
   • 105810 Load DDS TIME_PERIOD_ASSOC_TYPE Table
   • 105820 Load DDS TIME_PERIOD_ASSOC Table
   • 105830 Load DDS TIME_PERIOD_NLS Table

   Please note: The <*_NLS> tables are also known as the "secondary member tables". If you are loading member records in only one language, then you can ignore the secondary member tables.

1. In SAS Financial Management Studio, select the Cycles workspace
2. If there is a padlock icon next to the cycle name, select "Unlock this cycle"
3. Select "Show properties for this cycle"
4. In the TIME tab, select the clock/calendar icon next to the As-of-date field and select "Make Current" and "OK". Your new time periods should now appear in the hierarchy preview pane of the TIME dimension properties tab.
   
5. Select "OK"
6. From the Cycles workspace, select your cycle and choose "Create new periods".
7. Use the hierarchy icons to select the starting and ending members for the time periods you want to add to the cycle and "Next"
8. Confirm your selections and "Finish"

1. In SAS Financial Management Studio, select the Cycles workspace
2. Select the appropriate cycle and "Load data records for this cycle" and "Next"
3. Select "Detail Data Store" as the data source and "Next"
4. Select the appropriate target Time periods and target Analysis dimension members and "Next"
5. Select "Base" as the target member and "Next"
6. Select "Replace existing data records" and "Next"
7. Confirm your selections and "Finish"

1. In SAS Financial Management Studio, select the Models workspace and select your model
2. If there is a padlock icon next to the model name, select "Unlock this model"
3. Select "Show properties of this model"
4. Select the "Dimensions" tab and select the TIME dimension
5. Select the clock/calendar icon next to the As-of-date field and select "Make Current" and "OK" (you may want to make the As-of date current for all dimensions to pick up any changes made to other dimensions)
6. Select the "periods" tab
7. Use the drop downs next to the Start period/End period fields to include the new time periods in your model and "OK"

1. Log on to the SAS Financial Management Add-in for Microsoft Excel (SAS Solutions > Logon)
2. Select SAS Solutions > View > Refresh All
3. If the new time periods are not already reflected in the table, click your left mouse button on the TIME dimension
4. Click your right mouse button and select Members > Show Members
5. Select the new time periods and "OK"
6. Verify that new time periods have been added to the existing report.
