Installation Note 37408: The object spawner might fail to start when you are installing SAS® 9.2 on a Windows operating system: The error "Host name resolution failed" occurs

When you are installing SAS 9.2, the SAS object spawner might fail to start. If you open the object spawner log (for example: ObjectSpawner_2009-09-16_1844.log), you might see the following:

If you look in the object spawner start server log (for example: objectspawnr_startServer_2009-09-14-20.59.26.log), you might see the following:

If this is a single machine installation, check the hosts file. The hosts file on Windows can be found in one of these directories (you can open the file with Notepad):
C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc\
C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc
C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc
The default entry in the hosts file looks like this:
127.0.0.1 localhost
To correct this issue, try adding the fully qualified host name to the default entry. For example:
127.0.0.1 localhost machine.domain.xxx
