Usage Note 37192: Reassociating file type extensions with SAS® Enterprise Guide® or SAS® Foundation software
By default, a .sas file or a .sas7bdat file opens in the application that it was registered with, usually SAS Enterprise Guide or SAS Foundation. You can change the default by using the SAS File Type Management Tool. To access the tool, select Start ► All Programs ► SAS ► SAS 9.2 License Renewal & Utilities. Then, on Windows 7 and Windows VISTA operating systems, right click on Manage SAS File Types and select Run As Administrator. On Windows XP operating systems, just select Manage SAS File Types.
For example, to open all of your .sas and .sas7bdat files in SAS Enterprise Guide by default, follow these steps:
- In the Select product with which file types need to be associated box, select SAS Enterprise Guide 4.2.
- Select the checkboxes next to .sas and .sas7bdat.
- Click OK to save the settings.
If you want your selected file types to open in SAS Foundation by default, perform the same steps but select SAS Foundation 9.2 instead of SAS Enterprise Guide 4.2.
Note: The last product that you select in the SAS File Type Management Tool becomes the default. That is, if you choose to open .sas files using SAS Enterprise Guide, you do not need to deselect the .sas file type for SAS Foundation, and vice versa.
For additional information, see SAS Note 32464 "Registering file types via the SAS Filetype Registration Utility for SAS® 9.2 and SAS® Enterprise Guide®".
