Installation Note 37134: Invalid messages about the validity of the SAS installation data file might appear during the SAS® 9.2 installation
During the SAS 9.2 software installation process, the installation routine prompts you to specify a SAS installation data file (SID file). If you accept the default selection, or browse to a new SID file, you might receive the following message:
Warning: The SAS installation data file is invalid.
Here are possible reasons for the error message :
- The SID file has expired.
- The format of the SID file has been modified.
- The SID file has been corrupted, possibly due to e-mail systems that inadvertently alter the file.
To correct this problem, perform the following steps:
- In the Specify SAS Installation Data file window, click Browse.
- Specify a non-expired SID file for the original SAS site number.
If the problem persists, you should save the new SID file to the local C:\ drive.
If you have a DVD of SAS 9.2 software, then the SID file is in the sid_files folder on the DVD.
If you have a software depot on a hard drive, then the SID file is in the SAS
Software Depot\sid_files folder.
Note: SID files for SAS 9.2 conform to the following naming convention:
sas92_order-number_site-number_host-platform.txt
To save the new SID file to the local C:\ drive, perform the following steps:
- Open the SID file in Notepad or another text editor.
- Go to the end of the file.
- Insert a blank line at the end of the file.
- Save the file.
- Reference this saved local SID file during the SAS 9.2 software installation.
If the problem persists, rename the SID file by performing the following steps:
- Open the SID file in Internet Explorer.
- Click File ► Save As.
- Rename the SID file.
- Point to the new filename during the SAS 9.2 softwareinstallation.
Determining the original SAS site number
To determine the SAS site number for your original order, perform the following steps:
- Obtain the six-digit order number, which is available from:
- the Select SAS Software Order installation window
- the SAS Software Depot\order_data folder.
- Open the SID file from the SAS Software Depot\SID_Files folder
(where the SID file name contains the same six-digit order number).
- Search for the string, SITE=, to obtain the SAS 9.2 site number for the
SAS depot or SAS media.
