Installation Note 36894: The SAS Configuration Wizard becomes unresponsive when you install SAS® 9.1.3 Service Pack 4 on Microsoft Windows Server 2008

When you install a SAS 9.1.3 Service Pack 4 planned installation, the SAS Configuration Wizard must run in order to apply the configuration. However, the SAS Configuration Wizard becomes unresponsive during the configuration stage in the Windows Server 2008 operating environment.

To prevent the installation from becoming unresponsive, perform the installation in the compatibility mode of a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 (Service Pack 1) operating environment.

Another behavior that you might encounter is during the selection of a deployment plan. The following error might occur:

You should perform the installation in the compatibility mode of Windows Server 2003 (Service Pack 1).

To start the installation in the compatibility mode of Windows Server 2003 (Service Pack 1) under Windows Server 2008, perform these steps:

  1. Click Start ► Control Panel.
  2. Make sure you are in the control panel Home view, not the Classic view.
  3. Select Programs.
  4. Under Programs and Features, select Use an older program with this version of Windows.
  5. Follow the instructions as shown on the following Program Compatibility Wizard pages:

    1. On the Welcome to the Program Compatibility Wizard page, click Next.

    2. Select I want to locate the program manually and click Next.

    3. Click Browse and locate the setup.exe file from the root directory of your SAS Software Depot or from the SAS® Software Navigator CD. Click Next.

    4. Select Microsoft Windows Server 2003 (Service Pack 1) and click Next.

    5. Select 256 colors and click Next.

    6. Selecting Run this program as an administrator is optional and should be selected only if necessary. Click Next.

    7. Click Next to test the program with the new compatibility settings.

    8. If the prompt Do you want to run this file? appears, then click Run. The installation continues.

Note: If the SAS installation is not a planned installation, then you do not have to use the Program Compatibility Wizard. For example, if you are installing only SAS Foundation® 9.1.3 Service Pack 4, then you can run setup.exe from the disk1 folder of a SAS Software Depot or from the SAS Setup CD. In this case, you do not need to use the Program Compatibility Wizard.
