Installation Note 36641: The subsequent application of hot fixes and maintenance packages might fail if you used the -forceinstall option during a SAS® 9.2 installation
If you have used the -forceinstall command-line option with the SAS® Deployment Wizard to install SAS 9.2 from media in SAS 9.2 revisions prior to Revision 09w32, it is possible that the subsequent application of hot fixes and maintenance packages might fail.
This occurs because SAS products are not properly updated in the deployment registry (located in
C:\Program Files\SAS\deploymntreg\registry.xml).
To repair this issue, select the Downloads tab in this SAS note, download the FixForceInstall.bat to the affected Windows machine, and follow these directions:
To run interactively
- Place the FixForceInstall.bat file on the local machine where you have used the -forceinstall option.
- Double-click the .bat file. You are prompted for the location of the
SASHOME directory, which is by default C:\Program Files\SAS.
- Type the location of SASHOME.
Note: If you have a Windows operating environment in which you have installed both SAS 32-bit and Windows x64, you will be asked which version of SAS Foundation you want to update.
Select 1 for SAS Foundation for Windows x64 or 2 for SAS Foundation for Windows 32-bit.
- The tool signals completion with the following information:
Backing up the SAS Deployment Registry...
Populating the SAS Deployment Registry...
Done.
To run via batch submission
- Place the FixForceInstall.bat on the local machine where you have used the -forceinstall option.
- At a DOS-command prompt, navigate to the location of the FixForceInstall.bat file.
- Type the name of the FixForceInstall.bat followed by the location of SASHOME and
1 or
2, depending on whether you are running this on a Windows x64 (1) or Windows 32-bit machine (2):
FixForceInstall.bat "C:\Program Files\SAS" 2
Notes:
- In this case SASHOME is
C:\Program Files\SAS and the 2 switch is for Windows 32-bit SAS.
- No prompting takes place when using batch processing. Prompting takes place only with interactive submission.
- The tool signals completion with the following information:
Backing up the SAS Deployment Registry...
Populating the SAS Deployment Registry...
Done.
This note applies ONLY to installations that used the -forceinstall command-line option with the SAS Deployment Wizard, with revisions of SAS 9.2 prior to Revision 09w32.
With SAS 9.2 Revision 09w32 and later, you can install directly from the DVDs.
Therefore, the -forceinstall option will no longer be needed.
See SAS note 36490 "Applying hot fixes might cause an error if the -forceinstall option is used during a SAS® 9.2 installation" to see the error message that is associated with hot fix and maintenance applications that fail due to the use of the -forceinstall command-line option with the SAS Deployment Wizard.
