Usage Note 36204: Labels are truncated to 64 characters when you import Excel headers into the SASĀ® System or you use the DBLABEL option to write SAS labels to Excel
SAS labels can contain up to 256 characters. However, a label is 64 characters when you import Microsoft Excel headers into SAS or when you use the DBLABEL= option to write SAS labels to Excel.
The truncation occurs because of a limitation of the Microsoft JET and ACE engines, which SAS uses. These engines truncate header rows at 64 characters.
The only circumvention is to rename labels after you import them from Excel or export them to Excel.
