Usage Note 36974: Changing the default port that the SAS® 9.2 PC Files Server uses when it is installed as a service
In SAS 9.2 Phase 2, you can install the SAS PC Files Server as a service. However, you cannot change the default port (8621) when you use the PC Files Server user interface. To change the default port, you must change the Windows registry, as explained in the following steps:
- Stop the PC Files Server service, as follows:
- Select Start ► Settings ► Control Panel.
- In the Control Panel window, double-click Administrative Tools.
- In the Administrative Tools window, double-click Services.
- In the right pane of the Services window, right-click SAS PC Files
Server and select Stop from the menu.
- Change the port value as follows:
- If you are running the second maintenance release for SAS 9.2 (TS2M2) or
later, do the following:
- Select Start ► Programs; ► SAS ► SAS PC File
Server.
- Click the Change Options button.
Change the port value from 8621 to the desired port.
- Click the OK button.
- Click the Restart Server button
- Click the Shutdown Server button.
- Restart the PC Files Server service by right-clicking the service and selecting
Start.
- If you are running SAS 9.2 (TS2M0), you must change the Windows registry as follows:
- Select Start ► Run, and type regedit in the Open text
box.
- In the Registry Editor window, expand HKEY_USERS ► .DEFAULT ► Software
► SAS Institute Inc. ► PCFILES Server. Then click
Settings to display the settings in the right pane.
- Change the default Port setting from 8621 to any open port up to 9999.

Restart the PC Files Server service by right-clicking the service and selecting Start.

Release is the software release in which the problem is planned to be
fixed.
In SAS 9.2 Phase 2, you can install the SAS PC Files Server as a service. However, to change the default port the server uses, you must change a Windows registry key.
