Problem Note 36405: Problems might occur with the pooled SAS Workspace Server when modifying a file prompt for a SAS® Stored Process
Repeatedly modifying the default value of a File or directory stored process prompt might cause problems for the pooled SAS Workspace Server. For example, if you modify the default value ten times, the
pooled workspace server might stop accepting requests. The value
might not be saved the tenth time and the SAS® Management Console window might become temporarily unresponsive before it recovers.
Each time the default value of a File or directory stored process prompt is modified,
a new pooled workspace server is started and the server never
shuts down. So, if you modify the default value ten times,
then ten pooled workspace servers will start
(and never shut down). By default, only ten pooled workspace
servers can be started. So, no pooled workspace servers will
be available for further requests.
If you encounter this problem, then you can shut down the
unnecessary pooled workspace servers by using the following
approach.
- Using SAS® Management Console, under Server Manager, go
to the pooled SAS Workspace Server.
- Under the pooled workspace server, navigate to the
lowest level to the host name.
- Right–click on the host name and select Connect.
This will display a list of the running processes.
- To stop a process, right–click on the process PID
and select Stop
.

For software releases that are not yet generally available, the Fixed
Release is the software release in which the problem is planned to be
fixed.
If the default value of a "File or directory" stored process prompt is modified repeatedly, the default value might not actually be saved. This might also cause problems for the SAS Workspace Server.
