Problem Note 36254: SAS® 9.1.3 elssrv and jproxy processes not exiting correctly on Solaris zones
In SAS 9.1.3, the elssrv and jproxy processes will not exit correctly when SAS is
running in a Solaris 10 zone.
The elssrv process in SAS 9.1.3 was designed before Solaris zones became available,
and will exit when it detects that its parent process ID (PPID) has switched to
the init process (PID=1). In a Solaris zone, the PPID of a process whose parent
has ended does not switch to the PID of the init process, but to that of the
Zone Scheduler (zsched).
The result is that the elssrv process will continue to execute because it is not correctly
detecting that its parent SAS process has ended. If a jproxy process has also
been launched by the SAS process, it will also continue to execute because its
parent elssrv process is still active.
