When filtering data in SAS Enterprise Guide or SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office, you might not see as many distinct values as you expect. By default, when you retrieve distinct values on the Filter tab, SAS Enterprise Guide returns up to 250 values and the SAS Add-in for Microsoft Office returns up to 25 distinct values.

Beginning with version 4.2, the Filter tab was modified to increase performance. This modification included limiting the search for distinct values to the first 100,000 rows of data. So, if your table has more than 100,000 rows, you might not see the number of distinct values that you expect because only the first 100,000 rows are being examined. The number of distinct values might be less than the default maximum, or less than any value that you have specified in the Options window.

Beginning with version 4.3, you have the option to control the number of rows scanned for distinct values. Select Tools ► Options ► Query, and then enter a value for the Maximum number of rows to process for distinct value requests option.
