Installation Note 35694: When you start SAS® Simulation Studio, the message "No valid SAS/OR or JMP7 license" appears
If you attempt to launch SAS Simulation Studio for the first time, a dialog box with the following message dialog might appear:
No valid SAS/OR or JMP7 license
The first time that you start SAS Simulation Studio on your system, the location of the SAS® or JMP® executable files on that system is unknown.
To specify the location for such installation folders, perform the following steps:
- Close the dialog box. A Configuration Dialog box appears.
- In the Analytical Servers section of this dialog box, click Browse to locate the installation folder for the SAS or JMP software you want to use with SAS Simulation Studio. Navigate to the directory where SAS.EXE or the JMP executable is stored. Here are the default locations:
C:\Program Files\SASHome\SASFoundation\9.4\
C:\Program Files\SASHome\SASFoundation\9.3\
C:\Program Files\SAS\SASFoundation\9.2
C:\Program Files\SAS\SAS 9.1\
C:\Program Files\SAS\JMP7
Note: If you browse to a valid folder for SAS.EXE, the same error message might appear. If that occurs, perform the following steps:
- Open the setinit.sss file in Notepad. Here are the default locations:
C:\program files\SASHome\SASFoundation\9.4\core\sasinst\
C:\program files\SASHome\SASFoundation\9.3\core\sasinst\
C:\program files\SAS\SASFoundation\9.2\core\sasinst\
C:\program files\SAS\SAS 9.1\core\sasinst
Note: If the setinit.sss file file does not exist, refer to the CLIENT USERS section of this note.
- Verify the following:
- The SAS/OR® software is licensed (SAS Simulation Studio requires SAS/OR software).
- Your SAS license does not contain ALIAS statements.
If the setinit.sss file contains ALIAS statements, contact SAS Technical Support. You will receive instructions on how to obtain a new SID file without ALIAS statements.
After obtaining the new SID file, perform the following steps:
- Run the Renew SAS Software utility to apply the new SID file (SAS license file).
- For SAS® 9.3 and SAS® 9.4 releases, verify that the newest SAS license file is now in the \SASHome\Licenses\ folder too.
- Start SAS Simulation Studio. Note: The error messages might appear again. Click Browse. Specify the folder where SAS.EXE or JMP.EXE resides.
If the problem persists:
- Ensure that you are logged on with Administrator rights.
- Open a Command Prompt window.
- Submit one of the following commands:
"C:\Program Files\SASHome\SASFoundation\9.4\SAS.exe" -regserver
"C:\Program Files\SASHome\SASFoundation\9.3\SAS.exe" -regserver
"C:\Program Files\SAS\SASFoundation\9.2\sas.exe" -regserver
"C:\Program Files\SAS\SAS 9.1\sas.exe" -regserver
Note: If SAS.EXE resides in a folder other than those listed above, name the exact path in the command above. Then, follow the previous steps to identify the JMP or SAS location.
CLIENT USERS
If the problem persists and your SAS installation is a CLIENT USERS install (known as an ADMIN-CLIENT install in previous versions), then you might see the following additional message:
Error: invalid SAS Server path
To resolve this issue, take the following additional step: If SAS.EXE is not in the default location, then update the SASServers9_2.bat file and objspawn_v9.cfg with the current location.
Note: The SAS or JMP folder specified the first time SAS Simulation Studio is invoked is stored in the SASServers.bat file. The default location for this file is C:\Program Files\SAS\SimulationStudio\1.2\launchSASServer\ or C:\Program Files\SAS\SimulationStudio\1.4\launchSASServer\.
Additional information is available in the Introduction of the SAS Simulation Studio: User's Guide.
- Open the C:\Program Files\SAS\SASFoundation\9.2\nls\en\SASv9.cfg file in Notepad or the SAS editor and search for -SET SASROOT. The path that is specified is the location of SAS on the Windows server. If you have SAS® 9.1 installed, then the SASV9.cfg file is in C:\Program Files\SAS\SAS 9.1\nls\en.
- In Windows Explorer, go to the location that is specified by -SET SASROOT and then drill down to the \core\sasinst\ folder. The setinit.sss file resides in this folder.
- Copy the setinit.sss file from the server drive to C:\Program Files\SAS\SASFoundation\9.2\core\sasinst. If the \sasinst\ folder does not exist, create it first. If you have SAS 9.1 installed, then the default folder for setinit.sss is C:\Program Files\SAS\SAS 9.1\core\sasinst.
- Start SAS Simulation Studio and the message above will appear again. Click Browse and specify the folder for SAS.EXE or JMP.EXE.
