Usage Note 35751: Using RSA encryption for SAS data sets on z/OS may be unsuitable for large data sets
On z/OS, creating SAS data sets using RSA encryption (specified via the SAS data set options encrypt=rc4 and encryptkey) requires significantly more CPU time than creating data sets using SAS proprietary encryption.
Reading data sets that have been encrypted via RSA encryption also involves a much larger CPU cost than SAS proprietary encryption. The cost of RSA encryption for large SAS data sets should be carefully considered when designing SAS applications.
Operating System and Release Information
SAS System | Base SAS | z/OS | 9.2 TS2M2 | 9.2 TS2M3 |
*
For software releases that are not yet generally available, the Fixed
Release is the software release in which the problem is planned to be
fixed.
On z/OS, encrypting a SAS data sets with RSA encryption requires significantly more CPU time than encrypting data sets with SAS proprietary encryption.
