Installation Note 35525: Controlling the use of the /tmp directory space in SAS® 9.2 or later
Customers have asked if they can control whether the SAS® System uses any space in the /tmp directory. There are various scenarios in which you might want to avoid the use of the /tmp directory.
- During the installation of SAS:
When you invoke the SAS® Download Manager or the SAS® Deployment Wizard, direct temporary storage away from the default location of /tmp. Do so by setting the system variable TMPDIR before invoking the SAS Deployment Wizard. The command might look something like this:
export TMPDIR=/directory/with/atleast100M
- During deployment of the SAS®9 BI Platform Servers:
These servers (metadata server, table server, object spawner) create small utility files in /tmp by default. To change this behavior, select the option for "Custom" prompts during SAS Deployment Wizard execution. In the subsequent dialog box titled Create Common Directories, if you click the Create a common Temp directory radio button, then all of these servers place their respective utility files in the <configuration-directory>/Lev1/Temp directory.
- During execution of the SAS® BI Servers:
For details about routing the temporary files that were created by the SAS Stored Process Server to a directory other than /tmp, see SAS Note 36230: "Changing the location of the _STPWORK directory that is used by the SAS® Stored Process Server or SAS® Workspace Server."
