Problem Note 34928: In SAS® 9.2, the SASINITIALFOLDER option is ignored when a .SAS program is opened from Windows Explorer
When you open a .sas file from Windows Explorer by double-clicking the file or right-clicking the file and selecting Open with SAS 9.2, the SASINITIALFOLDER option in the sasv9.cfg file is ignored. The SASINITIALFOLDER option is ignored and the default current folder is the folder where the .sas file resides.
This problem exists in SAS 9.2.
To check which folder is being used as the current folder, look in the bottom right corner of the SAS window after start-up. The current folder is toggled on and off by right-clicking the bottom of the SAS window and selecting or deselecting Current Folder.
The SASINITIALFOLDER option also sets the default folder for the Open and Save dialog boxes.
Workarounds
There are three different ways to work around this issue.
- You can manually change the current folder by double-clicking the current folder at the bottom of the SAS window and browsing to the desired path in the Change Folder dialog box.
- Or you can open SAS from a desktop icon or from the Start menu. When you do so, the SASINITIALFOLDER path in the sasv9.cfg file is honored and the current folder is the path that is designated by the SASINITIALFOLDER option.
-
You can also perform the following steps so that the SAS session recognizes the SASINITIALFOLDER option with OLE automation:
- Open just one SAS session and select Solutions ► Accessories ► Registry Editor.
- Right-click CORE and select New Key. The Edit Key Name dialog box appears.
- In the Edit Key Name dialog box, enter the name OPTIONS and click OK.
- Expand CORE by double-clicking it. Find the newly created OPTIONS.
- Now create a new key under CORE\OPTIONS: Right-click OPTIONS and select New Key. In the Edit Key Name dialog box, enter the name OLENOSETDIRECTORY.
- Close the Registry window.
- Restart SAS.
The issue is fixed in SAS® 9.3.
