Problem Note 34872: A metadata server that is configured with SAS/SECURE(TM) software might unexpectedly stop accepting new connections
If you have SAS/SECURE software installed and configured on your SAS® Metadata Server machine, the metadata server automatically stores passwords using the AES encryption method. In this type of environment, you might experience a situation where the server unexpectedly stops accepting new client connections. You are also likely to receive an error from the client application that you are using to connect to the metadata server, as well as receiving a message in the metadata server log. The message will be similar to the following:
Encryption run–time execution error.
The server then appears to stop responding. A traceback might be written into the metadata server log file.
This issue is caused by a problem that is related to the interaction between the metadata server and the encryption mechanism that is employed by the SAS/SECURE software.
You can work around the problem by performing the following steps:
- Add the following line to the omaconfig.xml file right after the line that has the following text: RETURNPASSWORDS="sas002":
STOREPASSWORDS="sas002"
- Restart the metadata server.
- Replace any stored passwords using SAS® Management Console. This causes the passwords to be stored, using the SASPROPRIETARY encryption algorithm instead of AES, which bypasses the problem.
A hot fix is available for this issue. Please contact Technical Support for access to the hot fix download and reference this SAS Note.
