Problem Note 34793: Client connections to the SAS® Metadata Server are not terminated when the browser closes or the HTTP session times out
When using Web Authentication, client connections to the SAS® Metadata Server are not terminated if you close the Web browser using the Close button, or if you allow the web application to time out. By default, the Web application times out after 30 minutes of inactivity.
This problem occurs only when using Web Authentication.
You should close your Web application by clicking the Logoff link. This action guarantees that all connections are terminated.
You can work around the problem described above by changing the Session Context Timeout setting under Session Service, using the Foundation Services Manager plug-in in SAS® Management Console. To maintain this setting, perform the following steps:
- Open SAS Management Console and access the Foundation Services Manager plug-in.
- Select Service Deployment Name ► Core ► Session Service.
Note: In this situation, Service Deployment Name is Remote Services or other web application's Local Services.
- Highlight Session Service and right-click Properties.
- Select the Service Configuration tab.
- Click the Configuration button.
- Select the General tab.
- Set a value for the Session Context Timeout. The value should not be less than the HttpSession timeout.
Note that, when you log into a SAS Web application, two connections to the metadata server are created. These connections can be monitored in SAS® Management Console with the Server Manager plug-in.
This issue has been fixed in 9.2 Maintenance 2.

For software releases that are not yet generally available, the Fixed
Release is the software release in which the problem is planned to be
fixed.
Upon logging into a web application, two client connections are created for the user. In SAS 9.2 when using web authentication, if you do not explicitly log out of the web application by clicking on Log out link, the client connections will remain indefinitely.
