Usage Note 34277: PDF files created in SAS® 9.2 are larger than files created by earlier SAS® releases
The global option FONTEMBEDDING is provided starting in SAS 9.2 to allow for the embedding of fonts in a file created by the SAS Universal Printers and SAS/GRAPH®. This option is in effect by default and results in significantly larger file sizes when PDF or PostScript (PS) files are generated by ODS.
In order to minimize the size of these files in SAS 9.2 and later, disable the global option setting with the NOFONTEMBEDDING option in an OPTIONS statement, from the SASV9.CFG file, or at invocation.
The FONTEMBEDDING option is discussed at length in the SAS® 9.2 Language Reference: Dictionary.
Please note that because the fonts that are used in the default style STYLES.PRINTER have changed, it is recommended that you update your default style as discussed in SAS Note 31747, "Font names differ in ODS PRINTER output." Failure to change the fonts could result in problems displaying the text in the PDF file. If the PDF file is opened and only dots are visible, the PROC TEMPLATE code discussed in SAS Note 31747 will be necessary.
