Usage Note 34167: Changing the timeout setting for the SAS Stored Process Web application
The default timeout setting for the SAS Stored Process Web application is 30 minutes. For example, if you run a SAS® Stored Process from your web browser and wait more than 30 minutes before submitting another request, you will be logged off and prompted for authentication credentials. You might also receive the following message in your web browser window:
Session Timed Out
Your session has timed out.
Your browser session has timed out, and you have been logged off.
You can modify the default timeout setting by using one of the following methods.
Method 1: Making Adjustments in SAS® Management Console
- Open SAS Management Console.
- Select Application Management ► Configuration Manager ► SAS Application Infrastructure.
- Right-click Stored Process Web App 9.4 and select Properties.
- In the Stored Process Web App 9.4 Properties window, select the Advanced tab.
- Select Add.
- In the Define New Property window, for Property Name, specify SessionTimeout.
- For the Property Value, specify a value, expressed in minutes. For example, if you want the timeout value to be 60 minutes, specify the following:
Property Name: SessionTimeout
Property Value: 60
- Stop and restart your Application Web Server to activate the change.
Method 2: Modifying the web.xml file for the SASStoredProcess Servlet on Your Middle-Tier Web Server
- Open the web.xml file and go to the bottom of the file.
- Immediately before the </web-app> tag, specify the following:
<session-config>
<session-timeout>60</session-timeout>
</session-config>
In the example above, the timeout value is 60 minutes. Change this to the value that is appropriate for your site.
- Stop and restart your Application Web Server to activate the change.
Note that the SessionTimeout setting in SAS Management Console will be used if different timeout values are specified using either of the above methods.
