In SAS^® Pack Optimization, the improved benchmark heuristic will reduce the overages in requests containing bulk packs and will make the benchmark heuristic more viable for stand-alone use (instead of optimization).

This also provides better solutions for purchase orders if run_benchmark_flg = 1.

Furthermore, improvements should been seen in general since the benchmark heuristic is also called within the main optimization algorithm.
