Usage Note 33562: Running SAS® 9.2 without discovering and accessing any of the system-defined printers
Beginning with SAS 9.2 Phase 2, a new system option is available that enables your SAS session to run without finding or accessing any of
the system-defined printers.
The default option, PRNGETLIST, specifies that SAS discovers all printers
that are attached to the system.
NOPRNGETLIST specifies that SAS does not recognize attached printers.
NOPRNGETLIST is valid in either the configuration file or
at SAS invocation, and it must include a hyphen when it is used in the configuration file or
as an invocation option.
A good time to apply NOPRNGETLIST is when you are spawning servers.
If you eliminate the process of discovering printers and their capabilities,
you might be able to avoid the performance penalty that comes with the discovery process.
To view the value of this option, run the following code:
proc options group=listcontrol;
run;
You can use NOPRNGETLIST in either of the following ways:
- as a line in a configuration file, such as in the file
!SASROOT\nls\en\sasv9.cfg
- as an option in the properties of the shortcut that is used at SAS invocation, such as:
"c:\program files\sas\sasfoundation\9.2\sas.exe" -config
"c:\program files\sas\sasfoundation\9.2\nls\en\sasv9.cfg" -noprngetlist
