Usage Note 33517: Upgrading SAS® Enterprise Miner™ from 5.1 to 5.3, two tier environment

On the server machine:
- Back up the metadata repository. For backup instructions, see the section "Using the %OMABACKUP Macro to perform backups and restores" in the SAS® 9.1.3 Intelligence Platform System Administration Guide.

- Stop the servers on the server machine. (For example, the Metadata Server, Object Spawner and SAS Enterprise Miner Shared Platform Server).
To stop the SAS Object Spawner, perform the following steps.
On UNIX systems:
Navigate to the following path:On Windows systems:<path-to-config-dir>/Lev1/SASMain/ObjectSpawner
Execute the script in the directory that stops the SAS Object Spawner.
./ObjectSpawner.sh stop
From the Start menu, select Programs ► SAS ► EMiner ► Stop SAS Object Spawner.To stop the SAS Metadata Server, perform the following steps.Alternatively, you can stop the SAS Object Spawner by executing a .bat file. You can find the .bat file in the following folder:
<path-to-config-dir>\Lev1\SASMain\ObjectSpawner
On UNIX systems:
Navigate to the following path:On Windows systems:<path-to-config-dir>/Lev1/SASMain/MetadataServer
Execute the script in the directory that stops the SAS Metadata Server.
./MetadataServer.sh stop
From the Start menu, select Programs ► SAS ► EMiner ► Stop SAS Metadata ServerAlternatively, you can stop the SAS Metadata Server by executing a .bat file. You can find the .bat file in the following folder:
<path-to-config-dir>\Lev1\SASMain\MetadataServer
- Insert the SAS Software Navigator CD.
- Select Advanced as type of Deployment and specify the location of your SID file when prompted.
- Select the deployment plan named: "Enterprise Miner Upgrade, two machines"
- Select 'ServerTier' for the machine when prompted.
- Install the components specified in the plan on the server machine.
Note: Foundation SAS is included in the plan. There are foundation SAS components that need to be updated for SAS Enterprise Miner 5.3 to work correctly. The installer will detect that SAS is already installed and present the choices to 'Add Components to SAS' or 'Install a new instance of SAS'. Accept the default 'Add Components to SAS'. On the 'Select Components' screen, all products licensed are selected: accept this default by clicking 'NEXT' to ensure that all components are correctly updated.
- Complete the Post-Installation Steps.
- Restart the Servers (ie. Metadata Server, Object Spawner)
Note: Do not restart the SAS Enterprise Minder Shared Platform Server. That functionality is now replaced by the SAS Analytics Platform Server.
- Configure the SAS Analytics Platform Server by running the configuration script.
On Windows systems:
Go to Start ► Programs ► SAS ► Analytics Platform ► AP Server Advanced Configuration.On UNIX systems:Go to !SASROOT\SASAPCore\bin and issue this command:More information on the Analytics Platform server, including configuration, can be found at:./apserver config
- Start the SAS Analytics Platform server. Once the SAS Analytics Platform server is started, it is ready for clients to connect.
- If you make use of the Model Repository viewer, the new files will need to be deployed to your web server.
- You can now uninstall the SAS Enterprise Miner 5.1 components.
On the Client Machines (if not deploying via Java Web Start):
Note: Java Web Start deployment of the SAS Enterprise Miner 5.3 client files is easier than ever. By default, the SAS Analytics Platform Server runs an embedded web server preconfigured to deliver the SAS Enterprise Miner client files. Review the SAS Analytics Platform server documentation for more information on that feature. However, please note that the SAS Enterprise Miner Tree Desktop Application that allows interactive training of Decision Trees must be installed on the client machine. Since that application is installed separately from the SAS Enterprise Miner Client, it is not deployed via Java Web Start.
- Insert the SAS Software Navigator CD.
- Specify the location of your SID file when prompted.
- Select Standard plan and choose the plan named: "Enterprise Miner Upgrade, two machines"
- Select 'ClientTier' for the machine when prompted.
- Install the components specified in the plan on the client machine.
- Complete the Client Post-Installation Steps found here.
- Once the install has finished, invoke SAS Enterprise Miner 5.3 by going to Start ► Programs ► SAS ► SAS Enterprise Miner 5.3
