Problem Note 33427: An automation error message displays when opening SAS® files in Phase 1 of SAS Foundation® 9.2 where directories include special characters
When the name of a Windows directory or folder includes a special character, such as an &
(ampersand) and you right-click and select Open with SAS 9.2, or when you double-click a file whose file type is registered to SAS 9.2, such as .SAS, these behaviors occur:
- SAS launches, the contents of the .sas file appear in an editor window, and
the SAS System X Command Window is Active dialog box appears.
- A Windows Command Prompt window opens with the following message:
CMD does not support UNC paths as current directories.
'directory_name\' is not recognized as an internal
or external file command, operable program or batch file.
where directory_name\ equals the name of a directory with an ampersand in the title, such as &qualityassurance, quality & assurance, quality&assurance, and so on.
- The following dialog box appears:
Automation Error
Error: An automation error occurred (0).
To avoid this problem, do not use special characters, such as ampersands, in Windows
directory and folder names.
This issue is planned to be fixed in a later release of SAS.
