Usage Note 33318: Each SAS® web application requires a single, unique session between the browser and the middle tier
Each SAS web application must run in a unique browser session with the middle tier. This design means the following:
- You may not run the application in more than one browser window.
- You may not run the application in multiple tabs in a single browser window.
- You may not choose to open pop-up windows, such as dialog boxes, in tabs in a single browser window.
These restrictions apply to products such as SAS® Visual Analytics on SAS® 9.4, SAS® Visual Analytics on SAS® Viya®, SAS® Web Report Studio, and SAS® Information Delivery Portal.
Note: SAS Visual Analytics has an applications menu that enables you to switch between applications. For example, use the applications menu if you want to work in SAS® Visual Analytics Designer and SAS® Visual Analytics Viewer.
If you attempt to run the web application in multiple browser sessions, you will experience unpredictable application behavior. Here are some examples of behavior that you might encounter. Other problems can also occur.
- When switching between tabs in one browser window or when switching between multiple windows, the application might repeatedly ask you to log on.
- You unexpectedly see a message in one or both browser windows that your session has expired.
- Results requested for a report in one window might instead render in a report that is open in a different window.
- The same report open in more than one window might appear differently in each window. Additional windows might fail to even display the report.
This requirement for a unique browser session is by design. There is no workaround.
Note: You can encounter the behavior in this SAS Note even if the web application is running in two different instances such as Lev1 and Lev2. Specifically, you see the unexpected behavior if the URL for both instances is the same. A possible workaround in this scenario is to use different supported browsers for the two sessions. For example, run one instance in Google Chrome and one instance in Mozilla Firefox.

For software releases that are not yet generally available, the Fixed
Release is the software release in which the problem is planned to be
fixed.
If you attempt to share one browser session across multiple tabs, you will experience unpredictable application behavior. For example, when switching between tabs, you might be repeatedly asked to log on to the application.
