When you create an initial metadata profile in the SAS Management Console, you might receive the following error:

This problem occurs when something in the app.smc file becomes corrupted or is changed.

To correct this error, do the following:

1. Open the Microsoft Windows Explorer.
   If you have Windows XP or 2003, navigate to this directory: C:\Documents and Settings\<user-ID>\
   For later versions of Windows, navigate to this directory: C:\Users\<user-ID>\AppData\Roaming\SAS\SASManagementConsole\9.x
2. Locate the app.smc file and rename it to app.smc.old.
3. Restart SAS Management Console. When you restart SAS Management Console, a new app.smc file is created.

Another workaround is to open the app.smc file and verify that the directories that are specified in this file exist. If they do not exist, create them manually.
