Usage Note 32947: While updating system requirements during a SASĀ® 9.1.3 installation, the SAS Private Java Runtime Environment (JRE) installation stops responding
During the System Requirements Wizard portion of a SAS installation, the SAS Private Java Runtime Environment (JRE) begins the process, but the installation becomes unresponsive and never completes.
This behavior has been seen on computers running Windows Vista Ultimate.
Try the following actions to work around this issue:
- Make sure there are no applications running in the background, especially anti-virus, spyware, and adware programs. Quit all programs or boot the machine into Safe Mode and retry the installation.
- Install the SAS Private JRE directly, per the directions in SAS Note 15119, "SAS Private JRE "System Update Error" when updating system requirements for SAS 9 install".
- If the preceding suggestions do not solve the problem, download SAS 9.1.3 Service Pack 4 installer and install the Private JRE:
- Go to Control Panel ► Add/Remove Programs. If the SAS Private JRE is listed, uninstall it.
- Go to http://ftp.sas.com/techsup/download/hotfix/e9_win_sp4_complete.html
and click Download: Service Pack 4 for Windows.
- On the next page, click Continue Downloading Service Pack 4 for Windows.
- When asked if you would like to Run or Save, choose Run.
- After the EXE file is finished downloading and the installation screen comes up, click next until the SAS 9.1.3 Service Pack 4 Install window comes up.
- Click Cancel, Yes, and Finish.
- Open a Windows Explorer window and navigate to
C:\Program Files\SAS 9.1.3 Service Pack 4\AT19S8\thirdpty3cd\jre3\sasjrewin002
- Double-click the setup.exe contained in that directory (if you cannot see the file extensions, click the Views button at the top and select Details). This procedure starts the SAS Private JRE installer.
- Install SAS using the SAS Setup Disk and installation directions.
