Problem Note 32926: The SAS Universal Viewer freezes up when attempting to open large SAS® list, log and program files or text files
Attempting to open SAS list files (.lst), log files (.log), program files (.sas), and plain-text files (.txt) that are larger than 1200 kb might cause the SAS Universal Viewer to freeze up and become unresponsive. If this happens, use the Windows Task Manager to terminate the application.
To terminate the SAS Universal Viewer application, follow these steps:
- Press the CTRL+ALT+DELETE keys and select Task Manager
from the menu.
- In the Applications tab, find the SAS Universal Viewer task.
- Select SAS Universal Viewer and click the End Task button from the bottom of the window.
- Click the End Now button from the End Task dialogue box that appears.
To work around this issue, save the file without a file extension:
- Open the file in Notepad and select File ► Save As...
- In the File name text box, type the name of the file in quotes. For example, if the original file is named test.log, save the file as
"test".
- Then select File ► Open ► Other... to open the file
in SAS Universal Viewer.
