In the SAS Enhanced Editor, as the program size increases, it takes longer for text to display. The delay in the display of typed characters is more evident in large programs with 5,000 or more lines of code. You might also notice that CPU usage rises to approximately 50% or more when typing starts. It then returns to a much lower percentage when all of the characters have appeared on the screen.
The problem occurs because the editor is checking and color coding all of the lines in the program each time you edit any code.
Click the Hot Fix tab in this note to access the hot fix for this issue.
With the hot fix applied and in SAS 9.2 TS2M0 and later, the speed of displaying typed characters is optimized for a SAS program with approximately 10,000 lines of code. However, testing with a 14,000-line program shows acceptable performance, as well.
