Usage Note 32538: SAS® Information Map Studio will not launch or start up, but other SAS Clients start up successfully
SAS® Information Map Studio might fail to launch or start up on a client machine when there is no JDK installation present or when
the SAS Client application has problems finding the Java installation on the client machine due to multiple installations of Java.
To work around this problem, you can try the following:
- Install the recommended JDK based upon the release of SAS you are running directly off the root of drive C:\.
You can download the recommended JDK (Java Development Kits) from the
Third Party Software Requirements for use with SAS® Products.
- Modify your PATH and JAVA_HOME system variables to pick up your JDK installation.
Your PATH system variable should have
the JDK installation directory value, preferrably as the first directory listing.
Also, your JAVA_HOME system variable should be
set to something like JAVA_HOME=C:\J2SDK1.4.2_05.
You can modify these two system variables by doing the following:
- Right-click My Computer.
- Select Properties.
- Select the Advanced tab.
- Click the Environment Variables button.
Move down to the System variables section of the dialog box near the button, and find the PATH and JAVA_HOME system variables.
- Select the respective system variable under the Variable column, and then click the Edit button.
- Make the appropriate modifications, and click on OK to save the change.
- Modify the "CommandToExecute" line in your mapstudio.ini file located in:
C:\Program Files\SAS\SASInformationMapStudio\3.1 to point to where your JDK is installed.
For example,
CommandToExecute=C:\J2SDK1.4.2_05\bin\java.exe
